Golden Gardens, Ballard, Seattle, Wa

I had to stand in this bush for 30 minutes with a swarm of these bees before I was able to get this shot. Luckily they don't sting unless you bother them.

Sights from Today's Photographic Journey around Seattle and its Environs

Fun times again!!! This Sunday I decided to stay away from the target rich Ballard and Fremont markets and find some new inspiration. After landing in southern Magnolia and Elliot Bay park, I managed to find quite a few interesting goings-on. I hope you enjoy!!!

The first picture is Mt. Rainier from the Elliot Bay Marina.

People from Today's Photographic Journey around Seattle and its Environs

I didn't really encounter too many people today. Mostly I was trekking through southern Magnolia and the beaches filled with shattered concrete slabs (to prevent erosion I assume). After a nice quiet morning, I travelled to Green Lake to meet some friends. While there I photographed some baseball players, including this league player who has the most awesome team name ever. Just look at the shirt!

After I spoke with him, I photographed cute batter girl before wandering on to meet Kate (#3) and Katie (#4). Exhausting day, mostly.

Saturday's Moxie Volleyball Event

Moxie Volleyball, a 501c3 non-profit group, runs volleyball tournaments across Western Washington, and last Saturday the group held a coed tournament on Alki Beach. The coed doubles teams battled for hundreds of dollars in cash prizes from 9am to 8 p.m. At the end of the day, Alki residents Chris Hannemann and Ariana Greer won the day's tournament, beating teams from across Western Washington. More info about Moxie Volleyball is at

Sunday Afternoon Update

This months issue of Northwest Chess features my photo of National Master Nick Raptis on the cover. You can see my photos from the 2008 Wa Open at http://obstreperousapprobation.blogspot.com/2008/06/2008-wa-open-chess-tournament.html

Friday evening around 8:00 pm, I went to Pike Place Market and the surrounding areas to photograph people on the street. The market was closed, however, the summer sun in Seattle doesn't set until after 9:00pm, so there was plenty of activity.

It's pretty difficult to be inconspicuous with a 400mm super-telephoto lens, and I had more than a few stares, but was out for at least an hour. Below are a few that I found interesting, I hope you do as well. Seattle is a wonderful city.

African Grey Parrot Macro Shots

Taken during a break from shooting a West Seattle Volleyball tournament, these photos of a friend's African Grey Parrot under a sun umbrella were a pleasure to shoot. Even though as I approached, he nibbled on my lens rim, he stayed pretty still. These were taken at 100 mm.
